Intercom Glue, Ecostick 9015STHV, Medium Strength, Water Based Adhesive

Buckleguy is the USA distributor for Intercom Srl, an Italian company that manufacturers water based leather glues, adhesives, and spray machines to apply it. Ecostick 1804 and 9015STHV are the core glues for leatherworkers, shoe factories, and manufacturers for simple craft use, up to full scale production.

Glue: Ecostick 9015STHV

Ecostick 1804 vs 9015STHV

  • 9015STHV
    • Strength: Medium. Ideal for stitched goods, where the glue couples and prepares two sides before stitching.
    • Uses: Ideal for coupling and folding leather, hybrid leather, fabrics, canvas, cardboard. Great in the production of belts, shoe uppers, bags, wallets, heels, insoles, and more.
    • Open Time: 2-4 hours
      • Once glue is applied you have ~4 hours of sticky, cold bonding. After 4 hours you can reactivate glue for 8-10 seconds at 60°-70° Celsius (140°-160° Fahrenheit). Reactivation can be done for up to 48 hours.
    • Color: Clear transparent. Over time glue will slightly yellow.
    • Instructions for use: Apply the adhesive to both sides. Let dry until the film of the adhesive becomes transparent. If more then 4 hours go by, reactivate glue at 60°-70° Celsius (140°-160° Fahrenheit) couple and press together. Final strength reached at ~4 days.
    • Application tools: Can be sprayed with a spray machine or applied by a brush or spatula.
  • 1804
    • Strength: High. Ideal for permanent bonding. No stitching required. Better performance on oily leathers and difficult materials.
    • Uses: Ideal for coupling and folding leather, hybrid leather, fabrics, canvas, cardboard, for gluing EVA, nylon, PVC, rubber, greasy leather with grease level up to 15%. Great where no stitching is required.
    • Open Time: 30 minutes
      • Once glue is applied you have 30 minutes of sticky, cold bonding. After 30 minutes you can reactivate glue for 8-10 seconds at 60°-70° Celsius (140°-160° Fahrenheit). Reactivation can be done for up to 48 hours.
    • Color: Clear transparent. Even with aging the glue does not turn yellow, remains transparent. Therefore, it is recommended on lighter color materials.
    • Instructions for use: Apply the adhesive on both sides. For cold bonding, let dry for ~20 minutes then couple both sides and press together. If more then 20 minutes go by, reactivate glue at 60°-70° Celsius (140°-160° Fahrenheit), then couple and press together. Final strength reached at ~4 days.
    • Application tools: Can be sprayed with a spray machine or applied by a brush or spatula.

Water based (Intercom) vs solvent based (Barge) glues?

Health Benefits:
  • Water based have no toxic chemicals (VOC's)
  • Eco-friendly
  • Odorless
  • Safe to work with indoors
  • No fire or explosion risk
  • Less waste and faster production process
  • Less harmful to environment
  • As water based is fully REACH compliant, many countries are beginning to require water based adhesives in manufacturing environments due to harmful off gasses (VOC's).
  • When working with solvent based glues and cements (Barge) you should use a ventilation system and wear ventilated masks, particularly when you are in small spaces.

Production Benefits:

  • (Barge) Solvent glue is ~85% volatile VOC, and only 15% resin (the glue). So 85% evaporates.
  • (Intercom) Water based is 50% glue content, and 50% water.
  • (Intercom) 3x more concentrated, so you need a lot less. You need to apply a lot of Barge because it is mostly VOC.
  • Even though the price of (Intercom) water based is higher, (Barge) Solvent glue is actually more expensive by volume as it is less concentrated and therefore you need more glue during application. And when using a spraying system you can save up to 5x the amount of glue, as spraying is more efficient than hand application.
  • (Intercom) Water based can be reheated if dried. See glue descriptions for more info.
  • (Intercom) Water based glue does not effect leather grain color.
  • (Intercom) Water based keeps the leather flexible and soft, unlike solvent glues that will stiffen leather.
  • (Intercom) Water based glue systems require significantly less maintenance.
  • The strength of water based glue can be permanent or non-permanent and can reach equal strengths to solvent based glues.
